Jovan Belcher Tragedy

Over the weekend as most people know by now, Kansas City Chiefs Linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend after an argument early Saturday morning. After this incident, Jovan drove to Arrowhead Stadium home of the Kansas City Chiefs and was met by Chiefs GM Scott Pioli and Head Coach Romeo Crennel.  Before the two could talk him out of it, Belcher committed suicide in the stadium parking lot by way of a gunshot wound to the head.

While I'm going to choose not to speak about the matter of the argument between Belcher and his girlfriend, I feel as if the NFL needs to take more action regarding their player's mental health as they continue their careers.  I know we have the freedom to bare arms and I feel as if this isn't the issue.  Most of these players receive head injuries that hinders them from being completely sane after their playing careers are over.  We all saw over the summer when former NFL standout Junior Seau committed suicide and how it took a huge effect on the impact and talks of head injuries and I feel as if this case is no different.  I understand that the NFL is taking action against hits to the head, but that doesn't change the fact that hits to the head are still going to occur regardless.  Still, CT scans of player's brains should still take place just to make sure there is no potential danger that the player may do to themselves or others around them.
