NFL Update

Big Week in the NFL as several teams look to gain more momentum for the rest of the year. The Indianapolis Colts continue to surge after coming from behind to defeat the Detroit Lions on the last play of the game 35-33.  The San Francisco 49ers fell in overtime to the St. Louis Rams 16-13.  The Pittsburgh Steelers pulled out a nail biter by defeating their division rival Baltimore Ravens 23-20.

From a fan's perspective on the outside looking in, the Colts are looking to be the team that is the most underrated.  Andrew Luck is having a fantastic rookie year with over 3,000 yards passing and 13 touchdowns as well as 13 interceptions.  To say that the Colts are playing with a chip on their shoulder seems a bit cliche, but with everything that has occurred within their organization in the past year from the end of the Peyton Manning era, to the arrival of Andrew Luck's.  To coach Chuck Pagano's diagnosis of Leukemia, you can't help but root for this team no matter if you're a fan of them or another team.

The 49ers in my opinion lost a very crucial game.  Although they're now 8-3-1, this game was a gimme in my opinion.  Colin Kaepernick in my mind is a better quarterback than Alex Smith because he can do so much more for the Niner's offense.  He's mobile and can stretch the field for Niner receivers such as Michael Crabtree, Randy Moss, and Mario Manningham.  Still, losing a game to the St. Louis Rams, a division rival and a team in which they tied just a few weeks ago, it shows on where this team could be headed.  They have one of the best defenses in the league and good defenses should always be countered by good offensive play.  If things don't start coming together for this team they could see their hopes of competing for a sixth Super Bowl title diminish before they can even go deep in the postseason.

As for the Pittsburgh Steelers.  They showed that are able to rebound from such a devastating loss to the Cleveland Browns just a week earlier.  With third-string quarterback Charlie Batch getting the start once again, he proved that he could withstand the defense of the Ravens pulling out the win in dramatic fashion off of a Shaun Suisham field goal to win the game 23-20 as time expired. Batch finished with 276 yards passing with a touchdown and an interception to go with that performance.  The win keeps the Steelers in playoff position with a 7-5 record.  With this performance the Steelers continue to show up against big game opponents with big wins against the defending champion Giants and now the Ravens, it will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out for Pittsburgh.  With quarterback Ben Roethlisberger looking to make a return to the lineup next week vs. San Diego it's only right the Steelers go back on a late run for a potential push for the postseason.
