New York Jets Quarterback Fiasco

I said when the Jets acquired Tim Tebow in the off-season that they would regret that decision down the line.  Not saying that Tim Tebow is a bad athlete, but he's not the man you want to eventually become your franchise quarterback.  Mark Sanchez is not that man either.  He's not a big play quarterback and he relies to much on his defense to make him and the Jets look good.  When the Jets went to two consecutive AFC Championship games in the 2009 and 2010 season, their defense was top five in the league yet their offense barely cracked the top 20 in all offensive categories. Don't get me wrong Tim Tebow had a great year last year with the Denver Broncos, but even the Broncos organization knew that they couldn't stick with Tebow for the long run which is why they dealt him to New York.  Now with everything that has transpired over the past year for the Jets they are now faced with another crucial decision in Greg Mcelroy.  Mcelroy led the Jets to a 7-6 victory over the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday, but even then his performance wasn't too promising hence the final score of the ball game.  In my opinion, the Jets front office is faced with a lot of adversity this off-season.  I wouldn't be surprised if the GM and Head Coach Rex Ryan are ousted at the conclusion of this season.  However, for the quarterbacks, Sanchez signed an extension in the off-season which locks him up under center for the next few years while Tebow and Mcelroy will most likely taking the back seat to Sanchez.  With Tebow's uncharacteristic ability, it will be best for the coaching staff to help utilize to the best of his ability in order to use him to his full potential.

Ndamukong Suh's Antics

Detroit Lions' star defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh continues to engage in conduct that is essentially viewed as cocky and arrogant to his peers around the NFL.  Suh is already an aggressive and reckless player as it is, but still it is evident that his style of play is costing him.  Suh has been fined $42,500 in total by the league for acts that were viewed unsportsmanlike and it seems that Suh has more money coming out of his pocket.  On Thanksgiving, Suh was subject of controversy after he claims he accidentally kicked Houston Texans' quarterback Matt Shaub in the groin.  Last week against the Indianapolis Colts, Suh was accused of celebrating after unintentionally injuring a Colts offensive lineman.  While Suh denied celebrating over the injured lineman, many Colts players had other opinions.  Luckily to Suh's credit, the league has decided not to fine or punish Suh for his actions in the past few weeks.  In my opinion, I think that Suh is a credit to his position and plays it a high level. I think all of the extra things he does after he makes a great play are a bit much and he should learn to control himself before he hurts his team altogether.  For Suh, it's a lack of self-discipline and in order for him to reach the next level in his playing career, he should begin to act upon it.

Kobe hits 30,000

On Tuesday, December 5, 2012, Kobe Bryant hit over 30,000 points for his career.  This made him the fifth player in NBA history to reach this feat next to Wilt Chamberlain, Karl Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabber, and Michael Jordan.  He also became the youngest to reach this feat at age 34.  While I'm not the biggest fan of Kobe Bryant, I will say that this feat is an amazing accomplishment added onto the 5 NBA championships he's won and the MVP award he earned in 2008.  Many are ready to see if Kobe and the Lakers can pull it out and make some sort of run at getting Kobe a sixth championship. While the feat isn't impossible, they face many challenges along the way and it will be interesting to see what Kobe and the Lakers will do now.

The Rise of RG3

This year in the NFL has been one for the ages and I can't help but point out one of the main things that stand out about it.  The quarterback class that was drafted earlier this year in April has been one for the ages and his being compared a lot to that of the 2004 Draft that featured Eli Manning who went 1st overall, Philip Rivers who went 5th, and Ben Roethlisberger who went 11th overall.  Between those three quarterbacks, there are four Super Bowl victories.  With that being such a great class, the 2012 draft class is proving to be a good one for the ages as well. This draft class featured Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Ryan Tannehill, Brandon Weeden, and Russell Wilson.  Although there is a lot of hype and praise for the first overall pick Andrew Luck, I can't help but point out how well RG3 is playing as well. After losing three games straight, it looked like the season was pretty much over for the Redskins, however since then, the Redskins have won three straight and are looking to make if four against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday.  Through twelve games this season, RG3 has passed for 2,660 yards and thrown 17 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions. He has also rushed for 714 yards and 6 touchdowns.  So in my opinion I think RG3 is having a phenomenal year and I can't wait to see what else he will do with the rest of the season.

Tim Duncan & Tony Parker photo controversy

After much controversy already hitting the front office of the San Antonio Spurs regarding the refusal to send starters like Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Gerald Green to Miami for a nationally televised broadcast against the Miami Heat last Thursday, the Spurs caught more heat on Monday when a Halloween photo from Tony Parker's Halloween party.  The photo depicts Tim Duncan and Tony Parker holding guns to the head of a man dressed as NBA referee Joey Crawford.  While many are speculating that the Spurs will face further discipline from the league, others are suggesting that the league should just shrug this one off.

In my opinion, I think this was all in fun and the two weren't trying to harm anyone in the process.  After all, it's Halloween and so much more crazy stuff occurs on Halloween than this. The Spurs have already been fined by the league $250,000 for their actions last Thursday so I think it's only fair to let this one slide.

Derrick Rose "Battle Scars"

During Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals vs. the Philadelphia 76ers, Derrick Rose tore his ACL and would miss the rest of the series and the playoffs and would be projected to return between 8-12 months. While his return is highly anticipated, I produced a tribute video dedicated to Rose and his eventual comeback. Enjoy.

Jovan Belcher Tragedy

Over the weekend as most people know by now, Kansas City Chiefs Linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend after an argument early Saturday morning. After this incident, Jovan drove to Arrowhead Stadium home of the Kansas City Chiefs and was met by Chiefs GM Scott Pioli and Head Coach Romeo Crennel.  Before the two could talk him out of it, Belcher committed suicide in the stadium parking lot by way of a gunshot wound to the head.

While I'm going to choose not to speak about the matter of the argument between Belcher and his girlfriend, I feel as if the NFL needs to take more action regarding their player's mental health as they continue their careers.  I know we have the freedom to bare arms and I feel as if this isn't the issue.  Most of these players receive head injuries that hinders them from being completely sane after their playing careers are over.  We all saw over the summer when former NFL standout Junior Seau committed suicide and how it took a huge effect on the impact and talks of head injuries and I feel as if this case is no different.  I understand that the NFL is taking action against hits to the head, but that doesn't change the fact that hits to the head are still going to occur regardless.  Still, CT scans of player's brains should still take place just to make sure there is no potential danger that the player may do to themselves or others around them.
